Custom Steel Safe & Interiors

Custom 1576-06From the ordinary to the just plain weird, if you're looking for a customized steel safe chances are that we can build it.  We've built a lot of custom safes over the years and our experience is your gain.  Please see below for guidelines, restrictions and general information on building a custom steel safe.

Requirements for a Quote

Please be aware that we require any Request for a Custom Quote to be submitted in writing from a qualified dealer.  There must be a sketch of the safe with the appropriate dimensions indicated on the sketch.  This will help prevent misunderstanding.  Please be aware that the sketch doesn't have to be perfect or dimensionally proportional, but we need something legible enough to determine all the appropriate dimensions and specifications.

Dimension Changes

  • Generally, when specifying any dimension changes it is important to provide either the internal or external dimensions.  We will calculate the appropriate unprovided dimensions.
  • When specifying outside dimensions, it is important to note whether you want the external depth to include or exclude the dial and handle.
  • It is ok to specify a standard production model and simply ask us to increase a certain dimension by a set amount.  Generally, we call this "stretching" the safe.
  • Please be aware that some dimensions may not be available if they make the safe unstable or unusable.  For example, the width of the safe can only be reduced so much until there is no more room for the boltwork on the door.

Multiple Door Options

While many of our depository safes already come with double-door options, you may want to modify or add doors to meet your needs.  Here are some options and guidelines.

  • The easiest option is to to take an existing door and "stretch" it by adding to it's width or height.  You can "stretch" the height and width of each door separately.  However, if the widths of the doors don't match, it may be more expensive that simply having all the door the same size.
  • You may specify which compartment you wish to have the deposit dropped into for front and rear loader.  Hoppers will almost invariably be dropped into the top compartment.
  • You may have as many doors as you wish so long as the doors are tall enough and wide enough to accomodate the boltwork.

Inner Compartments and Shelving

Inner compartments and shelves both can be arranged in just about any configuration so long as everything fits inside the safe.  Here are some things to consider:

  • Shelves can be fixed, removable or adjustable.  A fixed shelf will be welded into place.  A removable shelf will utilize angle-iron welded to the sides of the safe.  Adjustable shelves use two pieces of track welded to each side of the compartment.
  • Inner compartments can be with or without a door.  If there is a door or you're building a locker, you will need to specify the lock and whether you want the door to have boltwork (if it's large enough).  The most common locks are usually a safety deposit lock (dual nose key lock) or a medeco single key lock.
  • Please note that for a locker, specifying the outside dimensions of the safe and the specific dimensions of each individual compartment may not work.  The thickness of the steel adds up and often the safe will either be larger than anticipated or each compartment will be smaller.  It is often best to give us the constraining dimensions (which ones are important to you) and let us figure out the rest.

Weird Safes

Some safe designs simply don't fit a category.  If you need something built that doesn't fit the standard categories don't worry, we've built a lot of strange safes over the years.  However, when designing a non-standard safe, we may require more stringent drawing and specifications.  It may also take a little more time and communication to get all the kinks worked out of a new design.  But don't worry, we'll work with you each step of the way to make sure you get exactly what you're looking for.

Lead Times

  • The standard lead time for a quote is 2-3 days after the specifications of the safe is finalized (which may require multiple communications).
  • The standard production time for a custom depository is 1-3 weeks, depending on it's complexity.
  • The lead time for large volume orders will be quoted separately.
